Occupancy rate

In shortOccupancy rate is the number of rooms sold on a night or over a period divided by the number of rooms available, expressed as a percentage.

Available rooms exclude rooms that are out of order for maintenance or repair, so the denominator can change from day to day even in the same hotel.

Occupancy alone does not show success: being 100% full at a low rate can bring in less revenue than 85% at a higher one. Read occupancy together with ADR and RevPAR.

Formula

Occupancy rate = Rooms sold ÷ Rooms available × 100

Example

120 of 150 available rooms were sold: occupancy = 120 ÷ 150 × 100 = 80%.

In Optima Radar

Radar's occupancy heat map estimates occupancy in your area. It is not your own hotel's occupancy but an estimate derived from the availability of hotels nearby, and it is labelled as such on screen.
