ADR (Average Daily Rate)
In shortADR (Average Daily Rate) is the average room revenue earned per occupied room, calculated by dividing room revenue by the number of room nights sold.
ADR measures price level, not occupancy: unsold rooms are left out. Total revenue can therefore fall while ADR rises, which is why ADR should be read together with occupancy and RevPAR.
Usually only room revenue counts; breakfast, taxes and extras are excluded. Complimentary rooms are left out of the denominator at most hotels.
Formula
ADR = Room revenue ÷ Room nights sold
Example
120 rooms were sold on one night for €9,600 of room revenue: ADR = 9,600 ÷ 120 = €80.
