BAR (Best Available Rate)

In shortBAR (Best Available Rate) is the lowest flexible rate a hotel offers publicly for a given night, with no membership, code or prepayment condition.

A hotel's other rates are often derived from BAR: the non-refundable rate a set percentage below, the breakfast rate a set amount above. BAR is therefore the reference point of the rate structure.

The price a guest sees on an OTA can differ from BAR: member discounts (such as Genius), mobile rates and promotions lower the displayed price. In competitor comparisons, it matters which price was read.
